Court ruling hasn’t stopped all Michigan pot shops

Medical-marijuana dispensaries in some parts of Michigan still are in business, despite a major court ruling last summer that banned sales between patients at pot shops.

In Burton, near Flint, there are three dispensaries in less than a mile. One of them, The Barn, says it has marijuana that will give the user “giggle fits.” The dispensaries are open because of defiant owners and a hands-off approach by local law enforcers.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton says he hasn’t received any complaints. He says his office is busy prosecuting serious violent crime, especially in Flint.

More than 130,000 people in Michigan are allowed to use marijuana to alleviate the effects of certain illnesses. The attorney general’s office has been advising communities about how to crack down on dispensaries.
