Apparently Berkley (and Royal Oak) are pushing for the State to legislatively ban the open carry of firearms in all buildings open to the public. This is an affront to the Second Amendment and surely would not have been supported by our Founding Fathers.
The Second Amendment clearly states that “…the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Several recent court opinions have upheld this right and several have stated that limitations on the right to keep and bear arms must be met with the strictest scrutiny. There are already established regulations regarding the open carry of firearms, including the ban on the carrying of all firearms in government building, schools, etc. To ban the open carrying of all firearms in ALL public buildings is unnecessary, illegal, and contrary to the Second Amendment.
